Friday After 5

Friday After 5 is a summer-long series of free outdoor concerts held every Friday on the stunningly beautiful Owensboro, Kentucky riverfront.

Friday After 5 began in 1996 with four concerts and grew into a 16-week signature festival for the entire tri-state area hosting more than 50,000 visitors each season on the riverfront every Friday After 5. It’s Where the Weekend Begins!

Pre-Unions:  Most high school reunions are on Saturday.  That’s why we host all of your classmates on Friday and call it a ”Pre-Union“.  We know the classes don’t have any money so we provide everything for free including a “pre-registration” table and chairs, a great band and a beautiful venue overlooking the river surrounded by great music on a warm summer night.  We’ll even help promote your “Pre-Union” in our marketing.  It’s free. Friday After 5 was again named one of the “Top Ten Summer Festivals” in Kentucky and just won the prestigious Reader’s Choice Platinum Award for “Best Community Event”  this year.  The festival includes live bands, family events, food and entertainment and our “Toast to the Sunset” at each Friday After 5.

Hours: 5pm until 10pm

Location:  From RiverPark Center through Smothers Park  downtown on the Owensboro Riverfront on the Ohio River.

Dress: Please.

Friday After 5 includes six venues of entertainment. 1) A Live band playing on the patio stage on the BB&T Plaza overlooking the Ohio River,  2) Acoustic musicians in the Atmos Energy Courtyard at the RiverPark Center  3) Kroger Street Fair that includes vendors, unique children’s events and special appearances by your favorite cartoon land stars in beautiful Smothers Park  4) Glenn Family Services sponsors Gospel on the River, a series of free concerts featuring three different gospel groups in RiverPark Center’s Cannon Hall which seats up to 1,500 people and 5) Free Open Bluegrass Jam on the beautiful “Overlook Stage” near the signature fountains and 6) Our newest venue, the Don Moore Party Pier at the Owensboro Convention Center!  You can walk the "Mile of Music" all summer....or ride it for free using the Free Owensboro Trolley! 

Fun For Everyone: Each week’s theme for the Kroger street fair is different.  We host a kids’ Hula-Hoop Contest each week and invite the five contestants center stage to see who can “Twist Again Like We Did Last Summer” the longest while hula hooping!  We choose five couples from the audience to enter the Water Balloon Toss Contest.  The  winning couple gets a Kroger Gift Card.  Losers get a towel. We all meet at sundown to “Toast the Sunset” as it dips into the Ohio.  Then the nightlife continues.
